Bedwetting Alarm

If you are considering getting a bedwetting alarm for your child or if you need it as an adult to help to try and resolve the embarassing condition of bedwetting you should consider its effectiveness.

A bedwetting alarm will in simple terms wake a sleeping child or adult as they begin to wet the bed.  There has been some in depth research on this alarm to test its usefulness and they have been proven as very useful.  The devise works on the simple principle that you can be trained to wake up before urination occurs and this can be used as a long term solution.

The  alarm is quite simply used and needs to be given time to work, it can take up to 12 weeks as you are training the mind to wake before urination, but this is on condition that there is no physical issue that is causing bedwetting.  Stress can also cause bedwetting but children generally tend to grow out of it, but an alarm can be a useful solution if bedwetting is a frequent problem.

Bedwetting in adults tends to be a more serious issue and may require medical help before attempting to use an alarm as there will be some underlying condition that is causing the bedwetting that will need to be addressed.

How a bed wetting alarm works

The mechanism of a bed wetting alarm can be very simple, there is a sensor placed in the pyjamas or on the bed so that it can sense when urination occurs.  When the child urinates the alarm will sound and wake the child as they are wetting the bed, and they will stop urinating.

It will take a few weeks to work, so you need to exercise patience.  It is not a quick fix but it can become a permanent one if used every night.  It can take at least 2 weeks before you have a dry night and can take up to 3 months to begin to work as it programs your child to wake up as they need to urinate.  If your child does not wet the bed every night it can take longer to train them but do not give up on the alarm.  The alarm is also a very safe way to treat bedwetting, there is no medication involved just noise as your child wets the bed.

There are many alarms on the market available to use, the most well known alarm is the Malem alarm as it is known for its quality and reliability.  Most alarms are now wireless which makes the alarm extremely convenient to use and there is no risk of getting tangled in wires.  If you decide to buy a bedwetting alarm you should shop around to make sure you have an informed choice, here is my favorite product from Malem
